Postdoctoral Research Assistant: Augmented Reality and Wearable Technologies

£26,495, rising annually to £28,936

Full Time, Fixed Term – Researcher


The Performance Augmentation Lab is providing a dynamic and interdisciplinary environment with a strong tradition of excellence in research and outstanding industry links in the professional fields of Augmented Reality and Performance Analytics. You will be working as part of the project teams developing Augmented Reality and Wearable Technology solutions in the H2020 funded WEKIT and TCBL projects. This position is for one year with possibility to participate in the acquisition of further funding.

You will be responsible to:

  • Design, develop, and evaluate holographic Augmented Reality applications for knowledge intensive training on the Microsoft Hololens (and other devices)
  • Design, develop, and evaluate e-textiles wearable solutions (Arduino)You will thereby:
  • Review the state of the art in these emerging fields
  • Engage in User Interaction Design for the next generation of user experience in real world interaction
  • Create holographic visual analytics and apply them for data analysis
  • Write technical reports, papers, and articles
  • Immerse in and help expand a growing international network of professionals
  • Work closely with international project teams and represent Oxford Brookes at project meetings and international conferences

You should have:

  • Doctoral or Postgraduate qualifications in Computer Science, Computing, Media & Computing, Information Science, or a related discipline or studying for PhD in one of these areas or a related discipline
  • An interest or maybe even a specialisisation in Technology-Enhanced Learning, Augmented Reality, or Wearable Technology (though that’s not obligatory)
  • An interest and maybe even familiarity with development in one or more of these emerging areas: Augmented Reality (Unity3D, C#, HoloToolkit), Arduino (ESP32, lilypad), HCI methodologies
  • An interest and possibly experience in writing funding applications
  • Ability to build collaborative internal and external relationships
  • Experience of successfully working as part of a multi-professional team.
  • Good IT, social media and communication skills
  • Ability to manage own workload and deliver projects on time.
